Choosing a domain name can be challenging. Stressing yourself out because the one you want is taken! Wondering if the options you’ve selected are the right ones! So here’s a few tips to help you when choosing the right domain name for you!

Relevant – it should be relevant to your business, what you do, and the business name.Typically you would use your entire business name, but if it’s too long you can shorten it (using initials can be an easy fix), but stick with what makes sense. The more relevant your domain name, the better.

Memorable – Keep it short and use simple terms. Think of it as if you were driving down a busy road in town, and you see a truck ahead of you with cool graphics advertising a tree trimming company (which you’ve been looking for a good one!). You notice a domain name on the back of the truck and think to yourself, I’ll check that out when I get home! Now, when you get home an hour later, is that domain name still in your head? Was it easy to remember like tree.com or was is joelarrychuckandbobstreetrimmingservices.com. Ok, perhaps that’s name is a little exaggerated, but you want to make sure it’s something your customer can easily remember and something that makes sense.

Usable – Avoid adding extra characters like underscores or periods, etc. Keep it simple and as short as possible. Ideally try to use the most common suffix like .com .net .org. Occasionally it’s appropriate to use other options if it applies to your domain or business.

If the domain you want is unavailable but not in use, you can use these sites to find out who the owner is. You can alway attempt to email them to see if they are willing to sell it to you.
